Find out more about Columbus, Ohio, the cultural and commercial capital of Midwestern America!

Home to almost 850,000 Americans, Columbus is the Capital of Ohio and its largest city; Cleveland (to the north) by contrast has 400,000. Well-known for industry, science and innovation, and steeped in political history, Columbus has come a long way in recent decades, especially on the cultural front. The Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Opera Columbus and various other institutions are a real drawcard for the city. Undeniably, the King-Lincoln District is the cultural hub of Columbus. The Lincoln Theatre was redeveloped in 2009 and today plays host to many of the city’s major performing arts and educational events.

Generally speaking, Columbus is a great place to live and do business. It consistently outranks most American cities for liveability and has a strong and diverse economy. Industries include aviation, banking and finance, defence, education, energy, health care, insurance, logistics, medical research and technology. This diversification has made Columbus resilient to global and national economic pressures, and the GFC had less of an impact on Columbus than it did most other American cities.

  • There’s plenty to see and do in Columbus, for locals and tourists alike. The Columbus and Franklin County Metropolitan Park District is very popular. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is world-class, and was ranked number one in America in 2009. The Zoombezi Bay water-park and amusement park is located within the zoo complex also. In June, there’s the Columbus Arts Festival, on the downtown Riverfront. Then in late July/early August, there’s the Ohio State Fair. Columbus is also well-known for its love of sports. The Columbus Blue Jackets represent the city as part of the National Hockey League (NHL), while Columbus Crew is the Major League Soccer (MLS) team.
